Solomon was a prominent king who built the temple.  When he dies, the Jewish nation divides into two (Northern Israel & Judah).  The destruction of Jerusalem is covered with 2 Chronicles ending with the Persian king Cyrus allowing the people of Judah return and rebuild the decimated temple.

Who wrote the book of 2 Chronicles?

Unknown but many sources point to Ezra as a possibility.

Who is the audience?

The people of Judah who have returned from exile.
