The first 39 books in the Protestant Christian bible.

The Old Testament in the bible begins with the Pentateuch.  These five books written by Moses are primarily accounts of the history of God's covenant people.

The next twelve books in the Old Testament are generally called the "historical books."  Following these are the "books of poetry" and lastly are the "books of the prophets."
